At 16 years in
the
making, this is the longest term review in the 7-year history of
MoJazz. Sixteen years is the amount of time we've been looking for dirt
bike handgrards that passed muster. This search has taken us through
handguards of local manufacture, various knockoffs, and offerings from
Acerbis, MSR and Barkbuster. We've passed on Cycra a few times
along the way because they were a little heavier than whatever we were
holding in the other hand and generally a bit more expensive. That
turns out to have been a mistake. I use a Pro Taper Twister Throttle Tube on my CRF450X, and have found that most handguards work just fine until that first big whack. Once the handguards are tweaked, even just a bit, they bind the throttle tube. Since I happen to really like the roller bearing PTTTT, I've spend a fair amount of time through the years dickering with bent handguards to get them straight. A few months ago I decided to try out a set of Cycra Probends when I couldn't locally source anything else. I wish that this had happened a lot sooner. The Cycra Probends are the best I've ever used with the Pro Taper setup. The slight increase in heft and expense are worth the performance. After months of punishment, throttle action is still silky smooth and my Rekluse Left Hand Rear Brake, ARC and Works Connection Elite Clutch levers are well-protected. It may have taken a while, but I've finally found what works. Better late than never. |
