Compared to Idaho I suppose it was warm down here but you must have gotten rained on. I was out riding in the sand as well and I'm always amazed how much water that stuff can suck up. Conditions were perfect even though my neck turned blue in the morning.
Happy new year

Happy New Year! Yeah - we had a blast. Story up on MoJazz soon. Nothing like snow mixed with sand.

Great article, pictures and video. I'd love to get out there when it's just a bit warmer, but before the dust season really sets in. What kind of video equipment did you use?

Hola Larry,
I used a Canon FS10 Flash Camcorder. It's pretty sweet - very small, light and compact. It was mounted on a Ram mount which is the best way we've found to mount 'em. I neet to experiment with the aiming a bit more (seeing some of the front fender is nice). In addition to the problem with quick panning, helmet cams are much too prone to being cleaned off the helmet by limbs and very vulnerable in a crash. We don't like wires for lipstick cameras. So a solid bike mount is our choice, all things considered. I have a vest that has a pocket for a camera and I've tried that but aiming is a problem.

Nice ride gentleman. I ran through your wave files just now and enjoyed that. Then I went back and added the theme song from James Bond done by Moby, I added that to that really long flick of you guys doing the whoops that made it entertaining. I could have swore some of my fillings came lose bobbing up and down with the camera LOL!!!
Looking closer at the map I see the trail is not far from Laughlin and having a buddy who lives there that looks like a great place to stage my own ride. I think I'll save it for the spring. Living in CA all these years has turned me into a pussy of sorts when it comes to cold weather.
I was going to ask about the camera you used and of course the question was already answered. Great sound not the usual wind noise you get from those helmet mounted cams. Vibrations looked like the only problem being that it was mounted on the bike. Sound was much better though.
All round a big thumbs up though, looked like you guys had a blast even if you did freeze your nuts off from time to time.
Cheers T

That ride is an absolute blast. I can't wait to get back. One of these days I am going to take off a week and just wander around the Mojave Preserve on my bike just to take it all in.

Martin
Did you guys need plates on your bikes to complete the ride or can you get away without any?

T All of our bikes are plated (much easier in Idaho than Cali). Just makes one less thing to worry about if you have to ride down the road for a while. martin

We are thinking about it for sure. But this year we are going to see how the weather looks! Right now it's nearly as cold down there as it is up here with significant snow up high. We might have to wait a few months.
